March 23, 2007, Newsletter Issue #5: Maintenance For Clear Coated Copper Water Wall Fountains

Tip of the Week

Most indoor water wall fountains require little care. Simple cleaning and maintaining water levels should keep your water feature running in optimal condition. Clear-coated copper water wall fountains are no exception, but there are steps you can take to ensure its natural beauty.

Clear-coated copper water wall fountains have a baked enamel finish which helps to prevent the surface from changing colors. Left on its own, copper will acquire a patina, characterized by a greenish hue on its surface over time.

For daily maintenance, use Pledge or a similar household furniture polish with a soft cloth to maintain your fountain’s appearance. Every three to four months, apply Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell Wax to your fountain. You have to take care not to allow the furniture polish or the wax to get in the water as this could damage your pump.

It’s important to remember not to use copper cleaner, which can damage the surface of clear-coated copper. Use distilled water to avoid unsightly spotting on your fountain. If you do get spots on your fountain, you can use calcium lime remover to safely clean your fountain.
