January 29, 2010, Newsletter Issue #152: Types of Floating Fountains

Tip of the Week

There are several types of floating outdoor fountains used in commercial and residential settings.

Heavy duty commercial floating fountains are typically used to aerate very large lakes and ponds and for eye-catching appeal. They require more horsepower that typical residential floating fountains and require professional installation and maintenance. Serenity Health's 5.1J F is an example of an adjustable floating fountain for larger ponds. With 5HP and six nozzles for interchangeable fountain patterns, fountain heights range from 26-50 feet in diameter.
Residential garden ponds typically require floating fountains ranging from, 1/2 to 3 horsepower (HP). The larger the garden pond, the more horsepower is required for adequate water flow. Conversely, a small pond is overwhelmed by too much flow. The 2400VFX floating fountain offers a beautiful aerating pattern adjustable for 5’-15’ wide. A separate photo eye provides a timer and a separate light offers nighttime viewing pleasure.
Solar floating fountains are ideal for garden ponds in sunny locations. Most solar-powered floating fountains are both functional and decorative. Some solar-powered floating fountains have solar panels built into their surface; others use a remote solar panel and battery station. For instance, the Floating Lily Solar Pond Fountain uses natural sunlight to power a six-volt pump via a solar panel on the surface of the panel. No special installation is needed; the fountain is ready to use right from the package.
